How to Lose Belly Fat Challenge: Week 3

Can I just say… Week 3 of my How to Lose Belly Fat Challenge has been a blast?! Wow… I have so much to update you on.

The energy came back!

Still not in a crazy way like Week 1 was, but I have felt it. I have felt energetic and like I can actually get through bootcamp and still get stuff done for the rest of the day… I have not been feeling sluggish at all. Just a happy medium of sustained energy through the day. The Shrink capsules are definitely still working their magic!

My cravings have become a thing of the past!

I don’t crave chocolate at all, in actual fact I hardly have any cravings for sweet things. I don’t miss them and when I see my kids eating something sweet I don’t have the faintest craving for any of it. Not only that, but I am not craving bread nor carbs. It is really one of the weirdest things… Where previously I would feel like having a slice of toast or bread with my morning eggs, that has completely gone.

My relationship with food is changing… goodbye belly fat!

I am starting to fall into a healthier style of eating. I am looking at my food choices and thinking about what will nourish my body the best. I am following a Banting kind of lifestyle, but I am not specifically going out of my way to make special recipes.

One of the traps I fell into previously when I started Banting was to substitute a LCHF alternative for what I was eating beforehand… So Banting bread instead of wheat bread. Banting desserts instead of sugar-filled dessert. It was a lot of work and cost a lot in terms of effort, time and money.

I have found that I can eat a healthy diet by buying mostly fresh food like salad ingredients and a few extra ingredients for protein. I try to use what is around, so I eat a lot of eggs! They are a whole food, very nutritious and keep me full.

My appetite also seems to be diminishing with each week.

I am finding that drinking water is vital to not overeating. There are countless times where I will feel “hungry” or peckish, drink water and be completely content. I always doubted that whole saying about how hunger is often thirst… but I am going to tell you something… Very often hunger is THIRST! HA!

I am still finding the balance between when to eat after drinking water and when to drink water after eating. I find, especially with the latter, that I feel uncomfortable and over-full when I drink water after a meal. This happens especially when I have eaten a little too much for that meal.

Drinking water is key to not overeating

To start early! I find that if I drink my first 500ml bottle of water before breakfast it is much easier to keep up with drinking my 2 liters of water throughout the day. It is a good idea to have drunk at least 1 liter water by lunchtime, if not a bit more, otherwise I struggle to drink water later on. The weather also plays a large part in how much water I drink. On hot days it is much easier to drink water than on the colder rainy days.

I have been back at it with a vengeance at bootcamp!

Thanks to the weather that held out most days, I got to do my 5 sessions of bootcamp for the week. There was one day where our training was rained out, but we managed to do some leg exercises and reverse pushups on the bleacher stairs under some cover, and then the kids and I walked to the car in the rain. We got soaked!

I am noticing a difference in my stamina and endurance. I can hold a plank for 30 seconds for at least 1 rep, but still struggle to keep it up if we do multiple planks after each other… My new goal is to be able to hold a plank for a minute! I am also finding that I can run for longer when we run around the track in between exercises… and do we run!

My muscles ache most of the time but I am getting used to it… It must mean that I am doing something right, right?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am loving exercising outdoors, being outside in the fresh air. My kids run around, studying and chasing insects and birds, as well as beating me at running around the track!

Steps for the week

Being a homeschooling mom my kids go wherever I go…

One thing I can say about taking children with me to bootcamp is, never forget the food! They can happily keep themselves occupied as long as they have snacks and water. There have been days where I take the iPads with to keep them occupied, but I am finding more and more that that is not necessary.

Something I am finding is that seeing me exercise is instilling an appreciation for fitness in my children. They do some of the exercises alongside me or try to crawl under me when I am doing planks! My 6 year old son often plays coach with his neighbourhood friends where they do twists with a ball, jumping on the trampoline, pulling him on his bicycle, and pull ups in the tree! He gets out his whistle and shouts commands for them to do 50 push ups more like a sergeant major than a coach… he definitely does not get it from Lelani, who is incredibly encouraging and not shouty at all!How to lose belly fat Kids at bootcamp 2

This was the week where I decided to do an extra bootcamp routine at home…

Because I can! As you know I had missed a few bootcamp sessions due to the rain the previous week, so I decided I had to do the home workout at least once this week. I want to do as much as I can to lose all the belly fat! It was exhilarating working out in my garden, and definitely helped to clear the Sunday blues.

And the results of the week areโ€ฆ

I have added a total cm lost for the week and total cm lost for the challenge to date tally. And of course I had to give a total belly fat lost count! ;D The challenge tally won’t include the measurements I took from the “Start of the challenge” column. As we know I am terrible with measurements and these were so far out that they would just skew the results too much!

The highlight of this week was that I broke through the 70kg barrier! I lost 1.4kg and 2cm of belly fat in one week! I am so happy!

This week I noticed that my neck seems more defined, even though I haven’t lost any cm there this week! I know that when I start losing weight my face and neck start getting more definition (as strange as that sounds!). My belly fat also seems to be disappearing. Best of all, that back fat roll is definitely almost gone, with just a slight dimple left behind!

    My trainer always told me that just because youโ€™ve had one bad meal doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™ve failed. Carry on going that same instant!

      Yes, so true… I am conscious of staying away from sugar and carbs though, because they are so addictive! ๐Ÿ˜
